ViaSat and Satcom Direct have integrated the ViaSat Yonder Ku-band satcom service with Satcom Direct’s Router (SDR).
The SDR is a smart router that can manage aircraft voice and data systems.
It allows multiple systems to operate on an aircraft without additional wireless access points, creating the ability for separate guest or dedicated VVIP networks.
The SDR can maximize the passenger experience by providing higher bandwidth to the cabin through advanced compression and acceleration technology.
Curt Gray, chief technology officer, Satcom Direct, said: “Business jet networks have become more complex than most office networks.
“The integration of the SDR with ViaSat Yonder is fundamental to a network architecture that can ensure a seamless user experience.”
Ken Peterman, SVP ViaSat, added: “We see this as a significant advancement for the office-in-the-sky, because the integration of these two products will reduce design confusion and improve reliability.”
ViaSat’s global Ku-band Yonder network is providing a broadband service to several hundred general aviation and government operators, plus thousands of maritime platforms, for internet access, media streaming, VPN, Skype, and office applications.
